7. What is Tibet Travel Permit?
Tibet Travel Permit is the official document for foreign traveler to enter Tibet. It is granted by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. Tibet Travel Permit sometimes is also called Tibet Entry Permit or TTB permit.

There are two kinds of permits (Tibet visa) for traveling in Tibet: the entry permit (TTB permit) and the Alien's travel permit (PSB permit). You can get them easily from U-WayTours.
TTB Permit - Tibet Entry Permit (Tibet visa)
PSB Permit - Alien's Travel Permit
How to get the travel permits?
It's quite easy for you to get a travel permit with our help. Simply send us your information of:
- full name;
- gender;
- date of birth;
- passport number;
- nationality
And you need to tell us your occupation because journalists and people that could be involved in political matters could be revoked .You aslo need to apply for the travel permit at least 10 days prior to your entry date.
Please note that if you do not book any tour from us, we can not help you to get the permits. No travel agency can provide "permit-only" service. Here is a note from Lonely Planet:
"Lhasa PSB will not issue travel permits to individuals and will direct you to a travel agency. Agencies can arrange a travel permit to almost anywhere but only if you book a Land Cruiser, driver and a guide."
Important Issues about Tibet Travel Permit
1. All kinds of people can get Tibet permit through a travel agency except diplomats, journalists, and government officials who should travel to Tibet under the arrangement by the Foreign Affairs Office of Tibet Government.
2. With the permit, you could buy the air tickets, and check-in at the airport and the check point reroute.
3. Only our guide could hold the permitwhen you are in Tibet.You are not allowed to travel to anywhere with it wherever you want because you do need another permit named as "Aliens’ Permit". Otherwise if you are stopped by the police you will be sent out of Tibet or have trouble politically and economically. Furthermore, the travel agency which helped to get you the permit will also be in big trouble.
Therefore seriously not any legitimate travel agency could sell you the Tibet permit if you do not book a tour with them. Weare quite sure you would like to be in trouble due to a "sold" Tibet permit after you pay a lot of money for the tour.
4. There is a service charge (by the government) to get the Tibet permit. And it also takes time, paper work, transportation fee and delivery fee to get a permit for you, so UWT will charge an extra fee for the permits.
Question: How much is Tibet permit?
Please note that we never SELL a permit. We only help you abtain a permit from the local authority. As mentioned above, the cost for a permit includes the charge by the government and the service fee by UWT. Usually this cost is included in the quotation for a package tour.
Question: How long can I get Tibet Permit?
Generally it needs three days to get the Tibet permit if you could supply the full necessary documents. But if it needs another 3 days (or more) to Express Deliver the permit.
There is a trick that when you apply for China visa, please do not mention Tibet. otherwise you have to wait for Tibet permit and it is much easier to get the permit with the Chinese visa. In our experience seldom does TTB refuse tourists if they are not diplomat, journalist, government officials.
Other documents:
If you are coming to Lhasa from Kathmandu, you'd better get China visa from Kathmandu because no matter you've already got the visa in your country or not, you must get a visa in Kathmandu, which is regulated in an official memo between China and Nepal.
8. What do I need to do to obtain the Tibet Travel Permit?

17. What are the hotels like in Tibet?
4 Star hotels is quite limited in Tibet. The newer hotels have been built away from the city center in order to protect the city history and environment. These hotels have central heating in winter but no cooling is available in summer. We would still warn that the facilities and service standard may not be as you would expect from a hotel with this rating in other parts of the world. Older hotels located in the city have a good location but will not provide the level of comfort of the newer hotels and may not have any central heating. The level of service and facilities may be quite basic. Staffs will probably speak little English. Hotels in small cities and the Everest Base camp are very poor. They will usually have a public bathroom with squat toilet.
18. Can explain what the budget guesthouse, comfortable hotel and best available hotel are?
One thing you should bury in mind is that hotels in Tibet concerning its facility and service are not as what you imagine. Not like hotels in big cities in China and other cities abroad.
Budget guesthouse has a few kinds. One is the twin room with or without the bathroom in it. The other is triple, four-bed rooms, and more beds rooms named dormitory which all have no private bathroom in them. Former one can be easily found in Lhasa and Shigatse, while later one is often the choice in remote area in Tibet.
Comfortable hotels on our website refer to middle class hotels, or standard hotels regarding to its location, or price, or comprehensive service ability. They are usually three star hotels, or comparatively good 2 star hotels.
The best available hotels are the 4 star hotels. But can only be reached in Lhasa. The best available hotels in the region out of Lhasa are generally 3 star hotels, and in some places hotels with no star, but comparatively of good condition.
19. What are the hotel rooms like in hotels in Tibet?
Often, in a room, there are two beds. Some hotels have queen bed room and some even have triple room. But the number of queen bed room and triple is very limited.
20. Does the hotel room have access to internet?
Some hotel rooms, not all, in Lhasa have access to internet, so you should inquiry your travel advisor for accurate information before making decision. But some hotel has business center where you can use internet service.
21. Is there 24-hour hot water running?
Due to basic condition in Tibet, sometimes with the poor pressure, the water flow may small and water sometime is not hot but just warm. In remote area, the condition can be even worse.
22. What can I eat in Tibet?
In Lhasa, you can choose Chinese food, western food, Nepali food and Tibetan food as well. But in remote towns and areas, choices are limited, Chinese food or Sichuan cuisine is the best choice.
